Michael is a consummate craftsman who has developed his skills and aesthetic through nearly 40 years of experience. He began his career at Hotel del Coronado, working in the hotel’s original machine shop with all the original equipment that had been used in the building of this historic wooden beach resort.
A furniture painter and re-toucher when he accepted the position at the hotel, Michael quickly became immersed in the full range of furniture maintenance and restoration needs of this Victorian landmark . He worked eight hours a day at the hotel, then spent evenings at the shops of local woodworkers who were expert craftsmen. Michael learned that if you were sincere in your request to know more, the experts would be generous with their knowledge.
Continuing his “hands-on” education, Michael did cabinetry, door, trim and residential finish work in Washington state and San Diego. After working with a Pacific Beach importer of fine European antiques where he enhanced his skills in restoration and refinishing, Michael opened his first business in 1980 on Miramar Road in San Diego. He later moved his business to Spring Valley, where he expanded his services to include in-house upholstering.
Michael relocated his business to Ramona in 1995. Initially located on Dos Picos, Michael relocated to Main Street about seven years ago to provide his clients easier access.
Michael is passionate about his work. He gets a true sense of enjoyment from excelling at something that brings such joy to others. Says Michael:
